The Purposes of this Association are:

to promote the development & growth of middle leveled education in grades 4 through 9;

to coordinate and share expertise and resources for middle level education;

to facilitate continuing curriculum and instructional improvement, staff development, school planning, and other phases of middle level education;

to promote and support specific certification requirements, accreditation procedures, distinct teacher preparation programs at the pre and in-service levels;

to facilitate communication concerning middle level education among the membership and the public;

to define and support the scope and role of middle level educators;

to sponsor and promote meetings and conferences for the purpose of achieving the above stated purposes.

Goals of the Association

The goal of this Association is to improve the education experience of middle level age students by helping schools, homes, and other community institutions in their efforts to identify and meet the intellectual and personal-social needs of the ages groups in order that:
every student should be well known as a person by at least one adult in the school who accepts responsibility for his/her guidance;
every student should be helped to achieve optimum mastery of the skills of continued learning together with a commitment to their use and improvement;
every student should have ample experiences designed to develop decision-making and problem solving skills;
every student should acquire a functional body of fundamental knowledge;
every student should have opportunities to explore and develop interests in aesthetic, career, and other aspects of life.
